Craving Some Contemporary

Does anyone have any good contemporary books that they've recently read and really liked?

Ever since I've read Anna and the French Kiss, I've just been craving some really good contemporary novels!!  My sister loves them, and I was looking at my shelf trying to find something for her, when I realized that I only have like 4 contemporary novels... out of like 60 or 70 books.  4!!!  And yeah... I've been craving contemporary novels too :D

Also, isn't it sad that I've never read a Sarah Dessen book?  I did the 100 Most Popular YA Books, and I haven't read any of them.  Sad sad sad :(  What's even sadder is that my sister has two of them, Just Listen and Lock & Key.  And I've never bothered to borrow them.  What is wrong with me??

Recommend me some good contemporaries and I'll check them out!

  1. I don't read a lot of contemporary fiction, and what I do tend to read is pretty edgy. If you're up for edgy, dark, and sensitive issues - SPLIT by Swati Avasthi is seriously the most amazing book in the whole world.

  2. All the books by Susane Colasanti and Deb Caletti. Sometimes It Happens by Lauren Barnholdt!

@Jessi- I've actually already read Split and I thought that it was pretty good :)

@Sky- I've read one book from each of those authors! I just read Waiting for You by Susane Colasanti and Wild Roses by Deb Caletti. Sometimes It Happens is on my wishlist too!

  4. Oh, my poor heart! It's broken! No Sarah Dessen? More contemporary? We need to fix that now. This is my thing.

Read Just Listen first. It's one of the most popular ones. The Truth About Forever being I guess, the most popular. Also, in the top three, This Lullaby. After those three, read Lock and Key. Again, just suggestions.

  7. Sarah Ockler and Sarah Dessen are my two favorite contemporary authors so anything by them is AMAZING. Some other great contemporaries: Sweethearts by Sara Zarr (I find it ironic all these authors have the name Sarah..... >.<), Please Ignore Vera Dietz by A.S. King, and The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks.
