I Promise

TO BE BACK AND READY TO WRITE ON THE 9TH!  Of June that is.  Its just been so crazy with teachers trying to pile up work so that we finish everything in time for finals.  It's very annoying.  For example, one of my teacher's just piled ANOTHER project on us and its due next Thursday.  I wonder if Junior year will be even harder...  Nope, don't even want to think about that right now.

Yes... I'm just about ready to collapse.

But, I'm basically READY for summer to come.

Where there will be A LOT more stuff going on, I hope, since I will have lots of free time.  I'll actually be travelling to China, but I'm sure that Baylee and Marmar will be able to write some posts.  And did you know that China blocked Blogger?  Yeah, I'm gonna have to figure out how to undo the blocking.

I think that in the next 13 days (Yes, 13 days until I shall be back), I'll be checking up on Booklopedia, but I dont think that there will be any posting.  Maybe like 1 or 2 if I have the time?  Who knows, especially since I haven't even started studying for finals :/

Hope you guys have 13 days of awesome reading!!

Review: Angelfire

Title: Angelfire
Author: Courtney Allison Moulton
Date Released: February 15th, 2011
Pages: 453
Rating: 4 out of 5

Description:
This debut, the first novel in a trilogy, is achingly romantic, terrifying, and filled with blistering action.

When seventeen-year-old Ellie starts seeing reapers - monstrous creatures who devour humans and send their souls to Hell - she finds herself on the front lines of a supernatural war between archangels and the Fallen and faced with the possible destruction of her soul.

A mysterious boy named Will reveals she is the reincarnation of an ancient warrior, the only one capable of wielding swords of angelfire to fight the reapers, and he is an immortal sworn to protect her in battle. Now that Ellie's powers have been awakened, a powerful reaper called Bastian has come forward to challenge her. He has employed a fierce assassin to eliminate her - an assassin who has already killed her once.

While balancing her dwindling social life and reaper-hunting duties, she and Will discover Bastian is searching for a dormant creature believed to be a true soul reaper. Bastian plans to use this weapon to ignite the End of Days and to destroy Ellie's soul, ending her rebirth cycle forever. Now, she must face an army of Bastian's most frightening reapers, prevent the soul reaper from consuming her soul, and uncover the secrets of her past lives - including truths that may be too frightening to remember.

Review:
Angelfire was definitely a really cool book involve angels, involving lots of action and some romance (as stated above ^.^)  I think that it was a pretty great debut for Courtney Allison Moulton, and there were a lot of things that I liked about it, but something things were so-so.
First things first, the totally awesome things!  I really loved the idea of a reincarnated human(ish) being who can kill reapers.  That was awesome.   I like books with a lot of action, and this definitely had A LOT of action.  Ellie was almost always fighting some sort of a reaper or training with Will.  And speaking of Will, he was also one of the really awesome things in Angelfire.  I just sort of fell in love with him throughout the book because he was incredibly sweet, but also had that bad-boy vibe.
In Angelfire, the only thing that I didn’t like too much was Ellie and her group of friends.  I couldn’t really connect with her and her personality was a little off.  At sometimes she seemed kind of like a baby, while at other times, especially when she was fighting the reapers, she just seemed really strong.  It also annoyed me how she’d constantly ask question after question to Will about what she is.  It was like an interrogation and it would get to be a little too much after a while.  Her friends also seemed sort of distant from her, most likely because she was caught up with all the reapers, but I couldn’t even feel that best friend connection between her and her best friend when they were together.
One thing I’m like seriously curious about though is Ellie’s dad.  Obviously, he went through some really weird personality change, which I find extremely suspicious, and I’d really like to find out more in the next book.
Overall, Angelfire wasn’t a bad debut for Moulton.  Some of the aspects of it were pretty awesome (Hahaha sorry for totally overusing the word awesome!)  while other things were meh.  But most was really good!  So, yeah! It was a pretty great debut from Moulton, and I can’t wait to read her next one to find out more about Ellie!
Cover Review:
Ahhh! This cover is really cool!!  It kind of seems a little medieval, so when I first saw the cover I thought it was going to be like about angels, but battling in somewhere like... the Underworld or something, but it's definitely cool.  Especially Ellie's sword.  So cool!

Cover Crazy (17)

Cover Crazy is a weekly meme that was created by Tawni over at The Book Worms to show which cover(s) you are absolutely going crazy over!

This week I can't get the cover for Imaginary Girls by Nova Ren Suma out of my head!

Here's why:
  • The colors really capture my eye!  Especially the blue!  It's a really pretty shade of blue, and the red really stands out against it.
  • I really love how girl reflected with the surface of the water.
  • Since a majority of the cover is blue, it almost seems like the body of water that the girl is in is never ending, which is really cool!
What are your thoughts on this cover?  Like?  Not totally in love with it?

Hope you guys have a marvelous Monday!

Mini Reviews

First, a mini story:  I orginally posted this post on Wednesday.  But then, Blogger sort of stopped working and then totally unposted this post, and deleted the stuff that I wrote on Wednesday for this post!!  So, now I have to think about what I wrote and make sure that it satisfies me ALL OVER AGAIN -.-  So not amused...

Now onto the real stuff: I'm doing some mini reviews again because I've finished all these books while I've been studying for my exam [I know, I know... It's not a very good mix hahaha]. Because I've finished all these really good books, I've kind of fallen behind on writing reviews :/  Sooooo, here comes some mini reviews!!!

Title: An Abundance of Katherines
Author: John Green
Date Released: September 21st, 2006
Pages: 256
Rating: 4.5 out of 5

Review:
This is my first ever John Green book, and it was really great :D  I found myself laughing a lot because it was pretty hilarious, especially Colin (the main character) and his friend Hassan.  Colin was definitely an interesting character since he is a child prodigy (not a genius) and has had 19 girlfriends all named Katherine.  All the characters were really different and diverse in the personalities which made it fun to read.  The only part that I didn't like was all the confusing math stuff... I couldn't really follow with what Colin was always talking about when it came to his Theorem of Underlying Katherine Predictability (as you can tell, I'm not very big on math... math class alone is enough math for me!).  But one other thing was really great about this book were the footnotes!  I've never really seen them in a novel, unless they're in really, really old books or textbooks, but they really add to the story and they're like little sidenotes :)  They were really funny!  Overall, this was a pretty great book, and if you're looking for a funny read, with a little confusion when it comes to Colin's Theorem, then look no further!  It's right here.

Title: Glimmerglass
Author: Jenna Black
Date Released: May 25th, 2010
Pages: 294
Rating: 3.5 out of 5

Review:
I really wanted to really, really like this one, but to me, it just didn't have that "wow" effect on me when I was done, because usually when I finish reading a book, I think about A LOT for a little while, and just take in what I've read.  It wasn't horrible, because I like fairy books and the creativity that authors put into their writing, and Jenna Black certainly did that with using Avalon as the setting and creating different types of fairies while still using some of the traditional fairies like Queen Mab and Tatiana.  I think that the thing that I didn't like too much was that there was sort of a lot going on, even though there was one main issue: Everyone wanted Dana (the main character) because she is a Fairiewalker.  But under this one issue, comes a whole bunch different events that were a little too much in 294 pages.  One thing that kept me reading on was Ethan :)  He kind of reminded me of Will from Clockwork Angel because he was sort of cocky, if that's the right word to describe him.  He was pretty funny, too.  Dana was kind of annoying though :/  She definitely has guts but she'd always be regretting what she did which got a little annoying after a while.  Other than those things that I mentioned before, I liked this book and I'll definitely be getting the next book Shadowspell because it's already out!

Title: Peeps
Author: Scott Westerfeld
Date Released:
Pages: 304
Rating: 4 out of 5

Review:
Peeps was definitely a really cool book with a VERY different twist on vampires.  I couldn't really see the peeps as vampires really, because Cal always talked about parasites instead actual vampires if you get what I mean, but it was definitely really cool and probably took A LOT of thought to create this new set of vampires.  One thing that I wasn't the biggest fan of was that sometimes I couldn't really follow up on his revelations about the parasite as the book moved on (As you can see... I'm not very good at taking in a lot of information at one time).  However, I found everything else thoroughly interesting.  The characters were really cool, especially Cal because who doesn't like a kick-butt character?  Overall, this was a really cool book!  It had such a cool twist on vampires and was very entertaining.  At this point, I'm not totally sure if I'm going to go ahead and read The Last Days because it has totally different characters, and I really liked Cal and Lace in Peeps

Hope you enjoyed these mini reviews!

Cover Crazy (16)

Cover Crazy is a weekly meme that was created by Tawni over at The Book Worms to show which cover(s) you are absolutely going crazy over!

This week I'm going crazy over the cover for We'll Always Have Summer by Jenny Han!

Here's what I absolutely looove about it:
  • I love the beachy vibe!  The whole series basically revolves around one beach, called Cousins Beach.  And I absolutely love beaches, even though this beach is probably a little different from the ones I'm used to (I'm from California ;) ).
  • This one's different from the other two books because this time, it's only Belly in the cover, as opposed to her with Conrad and Jeremiah.
  • It's a really soft and simple cover.  It doesn't have too much that will take away the appeal.
  • The color palate is great :D  I love the pastel green and blue because, well, I know that a lot of people don't really like pastel colors... But I love them and they're really relaxing colors that you would find with a relaxing beach theme!
I absolutely love this cover, but it certainly doesn't mean that you will, too... So, do you like it? Or dislike it?

I'm Back :D

Most of you may have notice that I haven't been on for like... 2 weeks.  2 WEEKS!  That's crazy!  I have a perfectly good excuse for my absence, however.  I had *cue the dramatic music*

AN AP EXAM

Maybe not the best excuse, but I was seriously freaking out trying to learn all the last minute stuff in the last 2 weeks... Not the funnest thing in the world, but let's hope that it all the hard work paid off...

BUT I'M BACK!

And I'll remain back until my actual finals show up again.  Which will be in about a month, but no worries, then you'll have me for a whole summer :)

Now, I'm just catching up on some reviews, and planning some other things that will hopefully be fun :D

Hope you guys have an awesome weekend!

Cleo :)
