This week, I absolutely can't wait for...
We Don't Die by Emmy Laybourne
June 5th, 2012
Your mother hollers that you’re going to miss the bus. She can see it coming down the street. You don’t stop and hug her and tell her you love her. You don’t thank her for being a good, kind, patient mother. Of course not—you hurdle down the stairs and make a run for the corner.Only, if it’s the last time you’ll ever see your mother, you sort of start to wish you’d stopped and did those things. Maybe even missed the bus.But the bus was barreling down our street, so I ran.Fourteen kids. One superstore. A million things that go wrong.
In Emmy Laybourne’s action-packed debut novel, six high school kids (some popular, some not), two eighth graders (one a tech genius), and six little kids trapped together in a chain superstore build a refuge for themselves inside. While outside, a series of escalating disasters, beginning with a monster hailstorm and ending with a chemical weapons spill, seems to be tearing the world—as they know it—apart.
I'm not sure if this is called We Don't Die, or Monument 14, but this definitely sounds like it's right up my ally. I love stories like this, like the Gone series. Full of intensity and set in such an interesting environment, this totally seems like the book for me. I can't wait for it!

Sounds like an interesting mix of characters! I'll definitely be checking this one out!
ReplyDeleteI've not heard of this, sounds thrilling! I'm loving this mix of ages and people that get stuck in a superstore, and that is a crazy mix of crap going on outside the store! Kind of like that movie The Day After Tomorrow, just on a jacked up scale haha. Thanks for sharing, definitely adding to my TBR list!

This looks really good! I haven't read the Gone series, but I have the first one on my kindle and I'm hoping to get to it soon.
ReplyDeleteTHis sounds way intense! :O I want to read it, now, too. Wednesdays do horrible things to me. In the end I spend hours contemplating which books to preorder etc.

I haven't read the Gone series yet but I have seen them around and often wondered about them. Amazing pick this week, thanks for bringing it to my attention! :D
