Reading Slump Cures?

Have you noticed the lack of posts since the beginning of the New Year?

You can blame it on my bad case of a reading slump.

The case?

I have been on the same book for the past month.

It's 517 pages.

I'm barely in the 100's.

This is not good.

So, for any of you who have gone through a reading slump,
do you have any magical cures that will
get me over mine?

Other than that, Happy Valentine's Day!

Cleo :)

  1. Sounds like you need to either give up on that or put it on hold, and (at least for now) move onto a different book. Is it that book that has you blocked? Is there something you're totally dying to read? Then drop what you've been tormenting yourself with and dive in.

If it's not this, and is a more general case of book block, ordering something that looks totally epic, or going back to an old favorite (or reading a new installment in a favorite series) might help.

Another thing to try might be a shorter book. Sometimes it feels like wading through quicksand trying to get through a 500+ page behemoth.

How social a reader are you? Finding a low pressure read-a-thon or a read along for a book that looks exciting to you might help.

Anyway, I hope one of these suggestions is helpful for you. Good luck.

    1. Hmmm... Thanks for the suggestions!

I might just need to move onto another book then because even though I loved the book before it, I'm just not getting into this one for some reason...

      Thank you so much!

  2. The thing I've discovered about reading slumps is that they're normally brought on by boredom. I figured out that if I just make sure to switch up the genres I read (for example: fantasy, contemporary, dystopian, contemporary again, etc.) then I don't get bored as easily!

In your case it sounds like this book might just not be a match for you. Maybe you should start another one? I totally understand if you want to finish the one your reading though! I'm definitely one of those "finish what I start" types of readers who has to finish every book regardless of whether or not it's actually enjoyable. :P

I hope you get out of your slump. :)

    1. Maybe that might just do the trick! Yeah, I always try finishing what I started, especially because this one is a sequel but I guess it just isn't as interesting as the previous one. I hate not finishing a book but I guess this one will have to be an exception.

      Thanks Julia!
